Overview
PDFsam Basic addresses page-level PDF tasks. It is relevant when Acrobat is mainly used to assemble or split documents, rather than edit their text. Basic is the open-source product; the same vendor also offers other products with different licenses and capabilities.
What it is for
- Split, merge, rotate, mix and extract PDF pages.
- Process documents locally without uploading the files.
What to check first
- Do not mistake the Basic edition for a complete PDF text editor.
- Advanced editing or OCR needs a separate evaluation and may require another product.
A useful first test
Merge two disposable PDFs and split the result. Check page order, bookmarks and forms that matter for the documents you actually handle.
Cost and hosting
The Basic edition is free and open source.
Primary sources
This is a review of official documentation and source repositories, not a hands-on certification. Test your own files before migrating.
